Abstract
The study investigated curbing the effect of soil and water pollution for sustainable cereal production in Kano state, Nigeria. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was 1,306. Through purposive sampling, the whole 73 extension agents were involved in the study while through random sampling 105 farmers were sampled, hence,a total sample of 178 respondents was used for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a 27 items structured questionnaire titled ‘effect of soil and water pollution questionnaire’ (ESWPQ).CronbachAlpa reliability method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.85 was obtained. Findings from the study revealed that respondents rated 7 items as control measures used in water pollution, agreed on 6 items as causes of soil pollution and agreed on all remedial measures used for soil pollution. It was recommended amongst othersthat agricultural extension agents should educate cereal farmers not to use substances that could cause soil and water pollution in their agricultural land.
