Abstract
Transformational leadership is seen as increasing the interest of staff to achieve higher performance through developing the commitment and beliefs in a school system. The present study aimed at ascertaining the transformational leadership strategies of principals to ensure effective teaching in secondary schools in Delta State. This is because there are repeated reports of poor performance of students by public examination bodies such as WAEC and NECO. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised all teachers in public secondary schools in the three senatorial zones in Delta State. The sample size for the study was 1,350 public secondary school teachers in Delta State. The data for the study were collected using the questionnaire and the data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and the z ?? 1/2 test to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The result of the study showed there is no significant difference between male and female teachers on principals?? 1/2 idealized influence strategies for ensuring effective teaching and learning in secondary schools. It equally showed that there is a significant difference between male and female teachers on principals?? 1/2 inspirational motivation strategies for ensuring effective teaching and learning in secondary schools. It further showed that there is no significant difference between male and female teachers on principals?? 1/2 intellectual stimulation strategies for ensuring effective teaching and learning in secondary schools. Finally, the result showed that there is a significant difference between male and female teachers on principals?? 1/2 individualized consideration strategies for ensuring effective teaching and learning in secondary schools. Based on these findings it was recommended that School principal should be encouraged to attend refreshers course that will help them to review current practices to ensure they stimulate teachers?? 1/2 effectiveness
