Abstract
The study investigated the relationship between administration, school culture and the problem of change among public secondary schools in Bayelsa State. The specific purposes of the study were to find out the relationship between school administration and culture, school administration and change and school culture and the problem of change in public secondary schools in Bayelsa State. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A correlational survey design was used for the study. The population of the study consist of two hundred and six (206) public secondary school administrators with a sample size of 40% of the total population representing eighty two (82) school administrators formed the sample using a simple random sampling technique in selecting the sample. Data collected were analyzed, using Pearson Moment Correlational statistic. The null hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research instrument used for the study is self constructed questionnaire titled ‘‘Administration, School Culture and the Problem of Change Questionnaire (ASCPCQ). The instrument was validated by some experts and subjected for reliability using Cronbach Alpha. A reliability index of 0.78 was obtained and which was good enough to conduct the study. Findings of the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between school administration and culture. Based on the findings, it is recommended that principals should be encouraged to nurture and support a culture conducive to change by making sure that answers and help are provided for problems encountered by teachers, principals, and also encourage a norm that the school is a place where teachers can improve their skills in a professional manner.
