Abstract
This study determined the ergonomic hazards affecting students in Building construction trades at technical college level. The study specially identified some preventive strategies that would minimize the hazards to the barest minimum. Relevant literatures were reviewed in line with the purpose of the study. The study adopted descriptive survey design and was carried out in Adamawa state of Nigeria. The population of the study was 108 respondents which comprise of 98 NTC III building construction trade students and 10 building construction teachers. The whole population was used. Statistical mean was used to answer the four research questions. The instrument used for the study was a standardized ergonomic programme. The findings revealed that students do experience ergonomic hazards when using hand tools and handling materials manually. Some of the hazards include pains in the lower and upper limbs, back pain and hernia among others. Some preventive strategies were identified. They include use of mechanical assistance in material handling improved workstation and staff training on safety matter among others. Some recommendations were made which include provision of ergonomically designed tools, improved workstations and training of staff and students on ergonomic hazards in the workshop or workstation.
