Abstract
This study was carried out to assess the safety and maintenance practices adopted by mechanical engineering teachers toward workshop facilities of mechanical engineering craft practice in Science and Technical Colleges in Adamawa State. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study was 195 which comprised of 15 teachers and 180 students of Mechanical Engineering trades in the three Government Science and Technical Colleges in Adamawa State. A structured questionnaire named Mechanical Craft Workshop Facilities Safety and Maintenance Assessment Questionnaire (MWFSMAQ) containing 34-items was used for data collection. Mean and Standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The results revealed, among others, that safety measures employed by teachers in the use of workshop facilities are inadequate and practices adopted by teachers in maintenance of tools and equipment are ineffective. The study recommended among others that stakeholders should make adequate and appropriate provision of spare parts, accessories and consumables for effective conduct of practicals and workshop maintenance activities in all the government science and technical colleges. Government and stakeholders should place emphases on improving safety measures employed by teachers on machines during conduct of practical in the workshops in order to prevent or reduce accident rate
