Abstract
Instructional Materials means all materials that are designed for use by students and their teachers as a learning resource and help pupils acquire facts, skills or opinions or develop cognitive process. Instructional materials are those resources used in any teaching exercise to promote greater understanding of the learning experience. It is well known among educators that the educational experience involving the learner actively participating in concrete examples are retained longer than abstract experiences. Utilization of resources in the teaching brings about fruitful learning since it stimulates students sense as well as motivating them. It assesses the responses of male and female teachers on availability and utilization of instructional materials for teaching of sciences secondary schools, Bauchi State, Nigeria. Survey Research Design was adopted. The population of the study was 250 science teachers in secondary schools Bauchi State, Nigeria, from which a sample of (67) teachers of sciences were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was adapted. The data collected were descriptively analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested using independent sample t
test statistical tool. All the four (2) null hypotheses developed for the study were rejected at 0.05 level of significance. The finding revealed that, there is no significant difference between the responses of male and female teachers on instructional materials available for teaching science in secondary schools, Bauchi State and there was no significant difference between the responses of male and female teachers on instructional materials utilized for teaching science in secondary schools, Bauchi State. It was recommended that supervisors should ensure regular supervision to enhance effective use of instructional materials and resources in the teaching of sciences in the secondary schools
