Abstract
<p> The study 'Gender Inequality and Women Empowerment in Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) was conducted as a result of discrimination that occurs in empowering people in TVET oriented programmes in Adamawa State. Two research questions were formulated to guide the study, with two null hypotheses. The design of the study was descriptive survey,where population of the study was made up of 161 male and female technical teachers in Adamawa State. The instrument for data collection was a researcher developed questionnaire, which was validated and was found reliable using Cronbanch Alpha with reliability index (α) = 0.86. Mean was used to answer the two research questions and z-test to test the null hypotheses. Findings revealed a number of strategies that can be used to encourage female gender participation in TVET programmes. Also female gender does not benefit from some TVET oriented programmes like; auto-mechanics, electronic repairs, blacksmithing, wood processing etc. These require encouragement from government, communities and parents on the part of female gender to participate in TVET programmes. Four recommendations were proffered for the study, which include: Women need to be encouraged to participate in the entire TVET programme for empowerment in Adamawa state. When taken seriously, TVET programme can empower women to the fullest, to give them the opportunity to make choices and achieve desired outcomes. Separating students according to sex in all activities does not help the system to grow rather it discourages a particular sex from participating in a particular programme. Female gender should be encouraged to participate in some programmes that are considered as muscular, e.g. carpentry, blacksmithing, auto-mechanic etc</p>
