Abstract
<p>This study examined and analyzed household income and expenditure on fish in Mubi North and South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria. Data were collected using structured questionnaire administered to 60 households heads randomly selected from six wards in the study area. Result revealed that majority (53.3%) of the respondents were males, (55%) were married with an average age of 35 years and household size of six person respectively. Results of ordinary least square shows that expenditure on fish was determined by respondents income level which was positively related. There was a strong and positive relationship between respondents' income and expenditure on fish. Low income group spent greater proportion (47%) of their income compared to high income group (33%). The marginal propensity to consumption of the low income group (0.47) and that of the higher income group (0.33) indicated that low income group spent a greater proportion on fish than the high income group. Autonomous consumption of high income group (#21,9030) was higher compared to the low income group (#16,577.4). Fish consumption pattern of respondents in the study area was largely determined by their income level. Based on the finding, it was recommended that there should be an increased in production of different species and varieties of fish, also there should be stabilization of fish market prices for sufficient fish consumption to be achieved.</p>
