Abstract

This study determined the effect of project based learning and blended learning instructional strategies on students academic performance in electronics devices and circuit in technical colleges of Adamawa State. The study was guided by four research questions and two hypotheses. The study adopted pre-test, post-test Quasi-experimental design and control group design. The population of the study consists of 108 NTC11 electronics and circuit students of the three technical colleges of Adamawa State. Intact classes were used by the researcher in conducting the study. The instrument for data collection was adapted from NABTEB past question papers titled; Electronics Devices and Circuit Achievement Test (EDCAT).The data was collected with the help of 3 trained research assistants choosing from each school. The instrument was validated by four experts and the reliability of the instrument was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula, and a reliability coefficient of 0.75 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation statistics was used to answer the research questions while ANCOVA statistics was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The finding of the study revealed among others that: there is significant difference among the pre-test mean achievement of students before the treatments F (df=2,108)=5.543 where p=0.005<0.05); there is significant difference among the post-test means achievement of students taught using project based learning method, blended learning method and those taught using conventional method. F(df=2,108)=30.870, thus computed p-value 0.000<0.05 level of significant. The study recommended based on the findings, that project based and blended method enhance students academic achievement. Recommendations based on the findings, the Electrical and electronics trade teachers should adopt project based and blended learning strategies to teach students because it is effective, Ministry of education both federal and state should organized in- service trainings, seminars, conferences and workshops for their teachers to apply this combination in their instructional delivery.
