The role of visual arts education in enhancing societal transformation cannot be over emphasized.
Most worthy to mention is the development of the peoples innate ability to see what they look at,
hear what they listen to, and feel what they touch and how they can convert it into wealth via
mobilization and utilization of thought and material available. Art, also help the society to be
economically self reliant particularly in a developing country like Nigeria. This paper investigates
the role of visual arts in providing individuals with the opportunity for acquiring appropriate skills,
development of both mental and physical competences and its economic contribution to the society.
Few suggestions on methods to be adopted in the societal artistic training are mentioned. And these
are: painting, graphics, photography, sculpture, ceramics and textile. It is the opinion of this paper
that visual arts education can come in as a tool towards the enhancement of societal economic
transformation, which may in the long run arouse and retain positive interest and passion in societal
economic transformation. This may be a key to productivity and national development.
