Abstract

This study assessed the availability and adequacy of training facilities for Electrical and Electronic trade programme at Business and Engineering Skills Training Centres in Yobe State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted. The population of the study comprised all the eleven (11) Business and Engineering Skills Training Centres in Yobe State where Electrical and Electronic Trade programme is offered. Three (3) Business and Engineering Skills Training Centres were selected for the study one from each senatorial zone of the state using stratified random sampling technique. The study employed descriptive survey design. Data was collected using a checklist of 40 items, for 3 Business and Engineering Skills Training Centres. Three experts validated the checklist and the checklist was trial tested using test-retest method of estimating reliability, its reliability coefficient was found to be 0.74. Count of items and percentage was used to answer research question 1 and simple percentage was used to answer research question 2 The findings of the study revealed that the training facilities for electrical and electronic trade programme are not available at BEST centres in Yobe State, the available ones are not adequate they are in short supply. It was recommended among others that all the Business and Engineering Skills Training centres in the area of study should be adequately equipped with the needed training facilitie by the Yobe State Government and Other collaborative agencies. Also the Yobe State Government should make sure that these facilities should be up-to-date in both quality and quantity for effective training to take place.
