Abstract

The study examined the predictive power of attitude on academic achievement of secondary school students in economics in Bauchi state, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design and Expo facto design which are purely quantitative. In the survey part, a structured questionnaire was used and administered to 390 randomly selected economics students of secondary school in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The data collected was analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings of the study revealed that attitude had significant influence on academic achievement of secondary school students in economics in Bauchi state. By implication, students with more positive attitude are more likely to show a better academic achievement in economics. The study recommended that parents and teachers should encourage students to develop a positive attitude towards economics and this would enable them to perform better in the subjects especially in the national examinations and to further their studies in economics and related courses at the higher level of learning.
